Score 88/100 · Drink 2015-2021, Robert Parker, Oct 2015

All of the Staglin 2013 reds were still in barrel, waiting to be bottled several months after I tasted them. The only exception was the 2013 Sangiovese Estate. It’s a very good Sangiovese, with plenty of new saddle leather, black cherries, some roasted herbs and loamy soil undertones. It is medium-bodied, seductive, and best drunk over the next 5-6 years.

The 2013 Stagliano is quite a bit darker and more powerful than the 2012. Dark cherries, plums, smoke, licorice, menthol and leather are laced together in the glass. Pliant and expressive, the 2013 looks to be another winner from Staglin. The 2013 is perhaps a bit less varietally true than the 2012, but it impresses for its dark, racy personality.
