Tasting notes
(15.2% alcohol): Bright, dark ruby-red. Dark berries, black cherry, licorice, menthol and intriguing smoky minerality on the nose. Plush, fine-grained and surprisingly sweet on entry, with black raspberry and darker fruit flavors complemented by sexy oak tones and a floral hint. The wine's acidity is apparent and reasonably harmonious, giving shape and lift to the middle palate. A bit leaner toward the back and a tad sour on the finish but the wine's tongue- and tooth-dusting ripe tannins are nicely, buffered by the mid-palate sweetness and savory personality. This may yet harmonize further.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain reveals a beautiful, rich blue/purple color, a layered texture, sweet cassis and blueberry notes, background minerality and light tannin. This impressively endowed, full-bodied Howell Mountain Cabernet is surprisingly approachable, but promises to evolve for 15 or more years. Tel. (707) 965-2746; Fax (707) 965-2750
