A blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Syrah and 15% Malbec, Viader's 2021 Black Label is a fine wine in its own right, not really a second wine. The Syrah and Malbec components bring more fruit into play, with juicy blueberries, blackberries and cassis all making appearances in this medium to full-bodied effort. It's ripe and supple, immediately approachable, yet with these three varieties, it should age well for more than a decade.

Full bottle 1,411 g. 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Syrah, 15% Malbec. Fermented in a combination of concrete, French oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks. Extended maceration on the skins for an average of 45 days. 462 cases produced. Deep purple in colour. Sweet, ripe black fruit and char with vanilla and spice. Layered oak and fruit with rounded tannin. Very plush with more grip than the Viader proprietary blend – muscular. (SCJ)
Lastly, the 2021 Red Blend Viader Black Label is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Syrah, and 15% Malbec, and it brings a more generous, giving style in its ripe black fruits, graphite, chocolate, and smoked tobacco. It's medium to full-bodied and has a layered, rounded mouthfeel, nicely integrated tannins, and a beautiful finish. I like the overall balance here more so than the Proprietary Red, but these are both concentrated, impressive wines that will benefit from bottle age.
