Tasting notes
Score 92/100 · Drink 2013-2017, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2011

The 2009 Syrah emerges from Rosella's vineyard, although not indicated as such on the label. Dark plums, blackberries, black pepper, spices, licorice and flowers are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. This is a fairly bright style; with excellent acidity and the backbone to pair beautifully with a wide range of foods. It also happens to be a stunning value. The Carlisle Syrah spent 19 days on the skins and was fermented with 40% whole clusters.

Carlisle focuses on wines from Sonoma, but this Central Coast offering is well worth taking a look at. I will review the rest of the current releases for the February 2012 issue. Tel. Bright purple. Smoky boysenberry and cherry compote aromas are complicated by notes of black pepper and olive. Plush and open-knit, offering pliant black and blue fruit flavors and a hint of bitter chocolate. The finish is smooth, spicy and nicely persistent. This will work well with strongly seasoned grilled meats.
