Tasting notes
(14.7% alcohol): Full medium ruby. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, cassis and licorice come across as medicinal and a bit youthfully stunted today. Rich, velvety and seamless, offering terrific energy to the primary black cherry, dark berry and licorice flavors. This highly concentrated cabernet finishes with serious tannic clout and impressive lift. It's extremely wound-up today but its inherent balance and rising finish suggest that it will evolve slowly and gracefully.

A dark, totally impenetrable wine, the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Martin Stelling Vineyard is difficult to evaluate today. With time in the glass, the aromas and flavors start to open up a bit, but the reality is that the 2009 is likely to require considerable patience. Melted road tar, smoke and violets lead to the bluest, blackest of fruit as the wine gradually shows off its pedigree. Firm tannins support a huge, palate staining finish.
