Medium yellow. Nose began a bit lactic and subdued, but blossomed with air to show soil-driven aromas of soft citrus fruits, peach, ginger and marzipan. Broad and round on the palate but with a firm edge of acidity keeping the lemon and tangerine flavors under wraps today. Finishes very long and tactile, with a distinctly dusty saline character. This wine showed compelling sweetness with 24 hours in the refrigerator. A real essence of Genevrieres and built for a leisurely evolution in bottle.

Lucien Le Moine’s 2010 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières turned out to be spectacular. The wine really should have been decanted, as it needed several hours to open up, but what a wine! Rich, explosive and layered, the 2010 burst out of the glass with a head spinning mélange of exotic aromas and flavors. The intense Genevrières minerality actually worked beautifully with the asparagus. Now I know what pairs well with one of the greatest enemies of wine at the dinner table. Too bad Genevrières isn't the kind of everyday wine one can drink whenever the mood strikes!

Serious, deep, estery nose combines citrus fruits, menthol, white pepper, almond and marzipan; smells like a walk in the vineyard. Dense and energetic, with outstanding cut to the flavors of lime, mint and noble herbs. This extremely intense wine really resounds on the classically dry, very long, palate-saturating finish, which conveys an impression of dusty stone and high dry extract.

Another showstopper, the 2010 Meursault Genevrières is uncommonly rich and voluptuous for Genevrières. Deep, resonant layers of fruit nearly manage to bury the wine's considerable minerality. The 2010 is a totally intense, seamless Meursault with no hard edges and exceptional balance. Today it is almost too rich, but it should be even more compelling in another few years, once some of the baby fat has begun to melt away.
