Tasting notes
The 2007 Mernet Reserve, a 50/50 Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blend, gives a deep garnet color and sings of warm cassis, baked plums and redcurrant jelly with suggestions of bay leaves, stewed tea, spice cake and tobacco. Full-bodied with rugged, muscular fruit and a very firm frame of ripe, grainy tannins, it delivers loads of savory layers and a very long earth and mineral-laced finish. This is a beautiful example of a more structured style—perhaps a bit more tannic than most Napa blends—and I love it!

(a 50/50 blend of merlot and cabernet sauvignon): Bright ruby-red. Reticent but ripe aromas of cassis, violet, licorice and sweet oak. Supple, lush and chocolate but with good shape and energy to its fine-grained middle palate. Nicely aromatic on the lingering finish, and not overly extracted.
