Tasting notes
The classic 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from Chimney Rock is a juicy, spice-filled, supple and undeniably delicious release from this estate that ticks all the rich boxes for an outstanding Napa Cabernet. Currants, spice-box, graphite, and a touch of cedar all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, pure, nicely concentrated 2014 that’s ideal for drinking over the coming 10-15 years.

A silky red with plum, blackcurrant and subtle chocolate aromas and flavors. Full body and a dense center palate, yet this remains refined and beautiful. Much better than the 2013. Drink in 2020.
This excellent winery has turned out a 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate that has all the elements one expects from Stags Leap. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, exhibits beautiful cedary, elegant black and red currant fruit, a medium body, graceful flavors, good acidity and light tannin. It is Bordeaux-like, but has the ripeness of Napa imprinted on it. Drink it over the next 8-10 years.
Another brilliant wine is the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Ganymede Vineyard. This is the site of the oldest vines on Chimney Rock Estate and the vineyard planted in hillside benchlands. There is a wonderful sucrosity and richness to the inner core of this wine, which is a positive characteristic that bodes well for its future. The wine is still young, promising and probably needs another 3-5 years of bottle age. But this is a 25-year wine that is impressive for a 2014, given its front end-loaded character. This is a beauty of purity and richness that should drink well for at least 25 or more years. Drink through 2046. (RP)
