Tasting notes
Mondavi's 2011 Fume Blanc Reserve bristles with energy and focus. Sage, white peaches, flowers, mint and tomato leaf are all very much alive in the glass. A wine of unusual detail and nuance, the 2011 stands out for its balance, clarity and pure class. A dollop of Semillon adds exotic floral overtones that are quite pretty. Aging on the lees adds texture, but the malos are blocked, which preserves freshness. About 50% of the fruit comes from the T Block, which has been dry farmed since 1955.

Pale bright yellow. Initially exuberant aromas of pineapple and coconut dissipated with aeration to reveal more subtle, varietally typical notes of peach skin, lemon grass, mint and crushed shiso. Supple and firmly built, with a bracing lemony character to the mirabelle and white peach flavors. A note of vanillin oak adds interest without getting in the way of the wine's lovely fruit. Finishes with a lingering peach skin character.
