Score 96/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Feb 2021

The 2019 Pinot Noir Wild Thyme Vineyard, medium ruby-purple in color, offers up scents of licorice, dried orange peel, amaro, dusty earth and loads of floral perfume. Medium-bodied, it has expansive berry fruits and loads of exotic spices, anchored by a grainy texture and finishing very long and seamlessly fresh. Give it another couple years in bottle. 167 cases produced.

The 2019 Wild Thyme Vineyard is deep and inky in the glass. Blackberry, cloves, lavender, licorice and sage all run through this deep, exotically rich Pinot Noir from Martinelli. Winds coming off the ocean result in small berries and thick skins. All of that intensity comes through loud and clear. I would prefer to cellar the 2018 for at least a year or two. (AG)

About the producer

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
