Medium garnet-brick in color, the 2003 Zinfandel Jackass Hill is beautifully scented of chocolate box, aniseed and smoked meats with touches of stone fruit, baked plums, raisin cake and coffee ground plus a touch of tilled soil. Wonderfully concentrated and full, with tons of decadent savory and sweet fruit, it finishes very long and earthy.

(16.9% alcohol) Deep ruby-red. Extremely reticent nose hints at menthol and dusty earth. Fat, dense and sweet, with very good acids. But this rather chunky wine is currently locked up tight, and dominated by its powerful tannic structure.

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
