Tasting notes
Martinelli's 2017 Zinfandel Jackass Hill is one of the most distinctive wines in all of California. Intensely aromatic, deep and racy, the 2017 exudes concentration and yet also remains light on its feet. Sweet red cherry fruit and soaring, floral-infused aromatics give the Jackass Hill its exotic personality. The 2017 needs time to be at its best, but it is pretty hard to resist now, even in the early going.

Pale to medium ruby-purple in the glass, the 2017 Zinfandel Jackass Hill has fantastic aromas of warm peach jam, boysenberry and blueberry jam, warm black fruits and underlying pie spices. Medium to full-bodied, it's wonderfully concentrated in the mouth with tricolored fruit and peachy goodness, framed by firm, grainy tannins and mouthwatering acidity, finishing very long. Only 56 cases were made.

About the producer

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
