Score 89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2006

Good deep ruby-red. Pungent aromas of plum liqueur, black raspberry and milk chocolate. Sweet, plump and full, with moderate complexity. Finishes with substantial broad, tongue-dusting tannins and a hint of stony soil. This is the last vintage for this bottling; beginning with 2005 Hobbs will offer a syrah from a vineyard in the eastern hills behind Santa Rosa.

Score 93/100 · Drink 2005-2015, Robert Parker, Dec 2005

The final vintage for the single vineyard Merlot Michael Black Vineyard, the 2003 boasts a dense purple color in addition to a sweet perfume of espresso, white chocolate, black cherries, and figs. With tremendous opulence, density, and a long, lush finish, it will provide plenty of pleasure over the next decade. (Release date 5/06) Tel. (707) 824-9879; Fax (707) 824-5843
