Score 94/100 · Drink 2018-2033, Jeb Dunnuck, Dec 2017

Mostly destemmed and fermented in tank and aged 22 months in one new and one once used, the 2014 Syrah Howell Mountain is beautiful with its meaty, charcuterie, blackberry, ground pepper and vanilla aromas and flavors. Rich, medium to full-bodied, balanced and lengthy, with sweet tannin, it shows it mountain roots in its structure and texture, and is going to evolve nicely for 10-15 years.

Score 91/100 · Drink 2016-2025, Robert Parker, Dec 2016

The 2014 Syrah Estate is about the same potency (14.8% natural alcohol) and has less bacon fat and lard, but more flowery notes in a more elegant and less exuberant and boisterous version than the 2013. Nevertheless, it is full-bodied and concentrated, with plenty of blackberry and back cherry fruit. The meaty bacon notes haven’t emerged yet, but the flowers are there. Drink now-2025.
