Butter and cream with bitter orange, green apple, fine floury texture and loads of stony, dry mineral character on the finish. Brisk acid gives bite to the finish, which suggests good ageing potential. (RH)

Displaying Riesling-like notes of petrol along with iris and citrus oil in the nose, Boyer’s 2007 Meursault Narvaux is another of those 2007s that defy one’s intuitions about relatively high yields with a palpable sense of mineral extract, here expressed as chalkiness, brine, and white pepper. This grips formidably and pungently, even a bit severely, but with a fine persistence of its diverse mineral elements. I would expect it to be worth following for at least a half dozen years. This should be worth holding for at least 5-6 years. Vincent Boyer’s 2007s – all of which were bottled by the following September, and weigh in at 12.5-13% alcohol – display a diversity of personalities, but share a sense of transparency to nuance, and a consistency of quality not equaled by his 2006s. Subdued, subtle nose offers brown spices and minerals. Ripe but quite dry and youthfully tight, with a note of saline minerality. I find this a bit rigid today on the back half. The mineral and nutty nuances reminded me a bit of Genevrieres.

Fine, nutty, mineral with plenty of spice. Lovely harmony of flavour and fine-boned structure. And good length. (JH)
