The 2009 En Gobelet, the second ever bottling of this cuvée, is a blend of 56% Mourvedre, 23% Tannat and 21% Grenache. Medium ruby, it's tertiary on the nose with old leather, hoisin, dried herbs and roast coffee with dried red fruits and briary hints at the core. Light to medium-bodied, it's very savory and tertiary in the mouth, with lots of chocolate and coffee spice coming through, framed with chalky tannins and good freshness and finishing savory. Drink up. 600 cases were made.

The 2009 Tablas Creek En Gobelet, first made in the '07 vintage and coming from head-pruned and dry farmed vines, is an outstanding, yet small production blend of 56% Mourvèdre, 23% Tannat, 21% Grenache. A ripe, big wine, with savory aromas of black cherry, tar, earth, meat, and violets all emerging from the glass, this medium to full-bodied red has a mouth filling, substantial texture, loads of structure, and long finish. Slightly masculine and rustic at the moment, with big fruit and chewy tannin, this needs 3-4 years to round into shape. It should drink admirably for 10-12 years or longer.
(56% mourvedre, 23% tannat and 21% grenache): A highly perfumed, kaleidoscopic bouquet evokes candied red and dark berries, potpourri and incense, plus a hint of roasted coffee. Broad, pliant and deeply pitched but lively, with a velvety texture to the raspberry and mulberry flavors. The palate-staining finish shows outstanding clarity and lingering spiciness.
The 2009 En Gobelet emerges from a dry-farmed parcel of head pruned vines. It is a hugely promising, beautifully balanced wine. Firm yet well-integrated tannins support dark red fruit, leather and spices. Today the wine is understandably quite primary and intense, but it boasts dazzling textural elegance and all of the ingredients to develop into a gorgeous bottle in a few years' time. There is no shortage of personality and character here. In 2009 the blend is 56% Mourvèdre, 23% Tannat and 21% Grenache.
