Score 94/100 · Drink 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2013

Sweet red cherries, mint, cinnamon and wild flowers all meld together in the 2010 The Dark Place. An unusual blend of mostly Tempranillo, Grenache and Cabernet Franc from Lake County, the 2010 stands out for its exceptional balance and class. Something similar to a Rhone-blend with a kick of Napa Valley richness, the 2010 is impeccable throughout. High-toned savory and floral notes from the Grenache linger on the close. This is a gorgeous wine from Behrens. The blend is 36% Tempranillo, 35% Grenache, 22% Cabernet Franc and 7% Cinsault.

(36% tempranillo, 35% grenache, 22% cabernet franc and 7% cinsault): Good moderately saturated red-ruby. Aromas of sour cherry, licorice, tree bark, violet and peppery spices. Fresh and chewy, with good acidity framing the flavors of spicy dark berries and black cherry. The wine's tightly coiled spring suggests it will be better for a couple years in the cellar.
