Score 92/100 · Drink 2024-2030, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Jan 2024

The 2021 Amour Fou is a unique wine composed of Pinot Noir, Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and skin-fermented Roussanne. "It is essentially orange wine," proprietor and winemaker Matthias Pippig explains, although "just one of the components is skin fermented." Matured for 19 months in used French oak, it has a medium onion-skin color and arresting aromas of grilled peaches, musk, wasabi, cracked pepper and candle wax with exotic, spicy undertones. The medium-bodied palate has a mouth-coating texture balanced by bright acidity that enlivens its fruit, and it has a long, spicy finish. 125 cases were made.
