Easily the most rich and decadent in the lineup, with sweet oak interwoven through its cassis, black cherry, licorice, ground herbs, flowers and spice-driven aromas and flavors, the 2012 Pinot Noir 4 Barrel is full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with a stacked mid-palate, beautiful overall freshness and a fabulous finish. Despite the overall size and richness here, it stays elegant, lively and fresh, with no hard edges and a seamless feel that carries all the way through the finish. It needs another year or three in the cellar, but will have over a decade of longevity. Rock-star stuff.

A heady, complex bouquet evokes candied dark berries, Asian spices and potpourri, along with a musky herb note and a hint of white pepper. Rich but lively and precise, offering energetic blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that pick up smokiness with aeration. Fine-grained tannins shape the finish, which lingers with strong mineral-driven persistence.
