Tasting notes
The 2014 des Fougères - Clos Montesquieu is compelling. Crème de cassis, lavender, violet, plum, black cherry and black pepper are some of the many notes that flesh out in an inky, super-expressive wine endowed with real personality as well as class. The 2014 is compelling for many reasons, especially in the way it is both incredibly vivid and rich. This is a super-impressive showing from des Fougères and consulting winemaker Frédéric Massie.

The Fougères - Clos Montesquieu is one of the most exciting wines I tasted from Graves this year. Vibrant and pulsating with energy, the 2014 boasts serious density. Smoke, savory herbs, wild flowers and pencil shavings flesh out in a vivid, energetic wine loaded with tons of nuance and pure Cabernet Sauvignon-inflected flavors. Cool, bracing notes of minerality add freshness. Simply put, this is a jewel of a wine.
