Tasting notes
The 2020 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has an effervescent bouquet. Orange blossom, wild peach and vanilla extract emerge with aeration. The palate leans towards the richer and denser style, with just a slight nuttiness coming through with time, leading to an off-dry, slightly volatile finish. This is a Les Clos that teeters on the brink, although a fresh glass shows more refinement. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Enough wood to comment on suffuses the cool but ripe and pretty aromas of wet stone, white flower, citrus rind and a plenitude of Chablis elements. The beautifully detailed and powerful flavors are borderline painfully intense before concluding in a mineral-driven, chiseled and compact finale. This is clearly built-to-age and like any respectable example of Les Clos, a wine that's going to need at least some patience. Excellent.
The 2020 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru, which was bottled in February, has a perfumed, slightly floral bouquet that maybe just needs a little more complexity. Perhaps I prefer the Mont-de-Milieu tasted alongside. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, taut and fresh, quite saline with a long tail on the finish. I feel this just needs a little more bottle age. Fine.
