Score 91/100 · Drink 2012-2030, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Oct 2024

Smith-Madrone's 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon remains dark in hue at 17 years after the vintage, but it does show a hint of bricking at the rim. The nose is marked by cassis, earth and slightly mushroomy notes, while the palate remains firmly tannic, finishing long. I suspect the fruit will fade before the tannins, so I suggest drinking this over the next several years.

Good red-ruby. Complex, scented, oaky nose combines redcurrant, black raspberry, mocha, cocoa powder, iron and licorice. Supple, smooth and nicely delineated, with sound, well-integrated acidity energizing the flavors of redcurrant, mint and herbs. Not a particularly fleshy style owing to its penetrating acidity but nicely light on its feet. This cabernet's firm tannic spine calls for patience.
