Good dark red. Reticent nose hints at medicinal black cherry. Then cool but ripe in the mouth, with sweet, sappy flavors of black cherry and licorice. Finishes tannic but not dry, with very good aromatic lift. This very primary wine is structured to age.

(aged in 40% new oak) Deep ruby-red. Black cherry and licorice aromas enlivened by spices and pepper. Sweet and fairly full, with a liqueur-like quality to the fruit leavened by a medicinal restraint. For all its sweetness, I find this a bit disjointed and withdrawn today, as there's a slightly obtrusive acid character. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins.
