Score 94/100 · Drink 2015-2025, Robert Parker, Dec 2014

From the Central Coast, the 2012 Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard sees 10% whole clusters as well as 75% new oak, the highest of any of these Pinots. Production is 496 cases. It boasts an ethereal, DRC-like perfume of forest floor, black raspberries, spring flowers, and red and black fruits, a medium to full-bodied, supple mouthfeel, good acidity and a broad, savory, lush personality. This vineyard was made famous by Jeff Pisoni and his sons, Gary and Mark. Drink it over the next decade.

Deep red-ruby. Brambly purple fruits, minerals and strong oak on the nose. Huge, thick and unsubtle, with undeniably mouthfilling flavors of cherry and briary dark berries. Pinot in a burly style, closer to Chateauneuf du Pape. For all the wine's power, its healthy acidity and big but well-distributed tannins give it a seamless texture. The label says 14.9% alcohol, but winemaker Hall says it's really 15.9%.
