Consistently one of my favorite wines from Mike Officer is his Proprietary Red Two Acres, which comes from an old-field blend dominated by Mourvèdre (78%) and the rest small quantities of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Carignane, Peloursin and Alicante Bouchet. The delicious, Rhône Ranger-styled 2012 Proprietary Red Two Acres saw no new oak, and was bottled unfined and unfiltered, and achieved 14.8% natural alcohol. It possesses supple tannins (always a challenge with Mourvèdre) as well as lots of new saddle leather, blueberry, black raspberry, earth and Mediterranean herb notes. This lush, medium to full-bodied, delicious, pure, well-made red should drink nicely for 3-4 years.

(78% mourvedre, with petite sirah, syrah, carignane, pelousin and alicante bouschet): Bright purple. Sexy, floral aromas of black and blue fruits, potpourri and peppery spices. Supple and appealingly sweet, offering juicy boysenberry and blueberry flavors and a hint of spicecake. Becomes more energetic with air and finishes tangy, focused and quite long, with smooth tannins coming on late.
Carlisle's 2012 Red Wine Two Acres is showing beautifully today. The flavors are bright and beautifully focused in this vintage. Orange peel, crushed rocks and cranberries all take shape in the glass. The 2012 is rich and concentrated, but also wonderfully vibrant on the palate. There is a lot to look forward to here. In 2012, the usual complement of grapes is back, led by Mourvèdre, with dollops of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Carignane and Alicante Bouschet.
