Score 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2012

Pale golden-yellow. Captivating high tones to the aromas of mango, pineapple and mandarin orange. Then almost surprisingly penetrating and savory following the nose, showing terrific cut to the citrus, licorice and mineral flavors. This broad-shouldered wine, from 20-year-old vines picked on October 20, the day before heavy rain fell, boasts penetrating cut. Finishes dense and long, with saline and cut hay nuances. This site features a very long period of ripening between flowering and harvest, says winemaker Thomas Brown, sometimes up to 130 days.

Score 91/100 · Drink 2013-2017, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2012

The 2010 Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard flows from the glass with scents of lemon, white flowers, spices and a hint of French oak. Despite the intensely mineral style, this is a rich, broad-shouldered wine that continues to grow with air. Layers of expansive fruit wrap around an energetic, refined finish.

Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. This is a beautiful set of Pinot Noirs from proprietors Thomas Rivers Brown and Genevieve Marie Welsh. Brown notes that the 2010 vintage was not looking so great at a number of these sites because of the cold summer. The late September heat wave gave the vines the last kick they needed to fully ripen. Brown gave the 2010 Pinots 10 months in French oak barrels ranging from 25-80% new. As good as the vineyard designates are, the real star here is the Sonoma Coast bottling, which is one of the most fairly priced Pinot Noirs from anywhere in the world. Tel. (707) 341-3127
