Healthy dark red-ruby. Wild, leathery scents of dark berries, mocha, tobacco, V8 and truffley underbrush. Plush, sweet and smooth but with the strong ripe tomato, herb and pepper notes dominating the wine's fruit. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins that eventually turn a bit dry with air. Incidentally, I noted tomato and pepper in a tasting note on this idiosyncratic wine in 2004, but it has lasted longer than I would have anticipated. Plush on the front half, densely packed and hardly short of sweetness but I'm not wild for the wine's vegetility.

The 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Wedding Vineyard (a south-facing vineyard planted on a steep slope adjacent to the winery on the backside of the Mayacamas Mountains in Sonoma County) exhibits a gorgeous perfume of scorched earth, charcoal, creme de cassis, sweet cherries, spice box and earth. Sweet tannin, an opulent texture and a long, rich finish make for another strikingly superb 2001 that is approaching full maturity. Deep red. Redcurrant, tobacco, tomato and fresh herbs on the nose. Soft and truffley in the mouth; seems a bit lacking in grip and flavor authority. Finishes with big, dusty, slightly dry tannins. Seems less successful than the Lamb bottling.
Saturated deep ruby. Black fruits, violet and spices on the nose; more exotic than the Lamb example. Fat and dense on entry, then considerably less sweet in the middle than the Lamb, with an impression of lower alcohol. Offers a lush, creamy texture for this bottling, but comes across as youthfully unevolved.
