Score 92/100 · Drink 2024-2034, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2022
The 2019 Syrah Hop Barn Hill is dark, fleshy and expressive. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, cloves, leather, menthol and licorice are front and center. This potent, brooding Syrah has quite a bit to offer. I would cellar it for a few years, though as it needs time to come together. The Hop Barn Hill is a bit brooding next to the other Syrahs in this flight.

About the producer

Martinelli
Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
