Score 95/100 · Drink 2019-2029, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2019

The 2013 Syrah Estate Vineyard offers a touch more intensity as well as a cooler climate feel in its awesome bouquet of blackberries, black raspberries, green olives, spring flowers, bacon fat, and subtle barbecue and obvious meaty aromas and flavors. It’s deep, rich, medium to full-bodied, and seamlessly put together on the palate, with perfect integration of its fruit, acidity, and tannin, this is a world class Syrah that wouldn’t be out of place in a lineup of top Hermitage (it’s more Méal than Bessards). Drink it any time over the coming decade.

Certainly the 2013 Syrah Estate, which is more expensive, is another animal all together. This spent 33 months in 100% French puncheons and barriques and is a flavorful wine with a dense purple color, a kiss of steak tartar, white flowers, blackberry and olive. Dense and full-bodied, it hides its oak aging well and has a nice multilayered mouthfeel and finish. Drink over the next decade.
