Tasting notes
Medium to deep ruby-purple, the 2017 The Modern is blended with 7% Viognier and has a nose of dried violets, cast iron, beef drippings and toasted coconut with cassis and roasted plum fruit. The palate is full-bodied, firm and ripe with savory character and good freshness to lift the finish. 125 cases were made.

The 2017 The Modern checks in as a 93/7 split of Syrah and Viognier. Its inky purple color gives way to a meaty, peppery Syrah with lots of vibrant black and blue fruits, smoked meat, ground pepper, and green tea-like nuances in a powerful, full-bodied, beautifully balanced package. It's another wine that has terrific complexity as well as a singular character.
The 2017 The Modern (Syrah, Viognier) packs a serious punch. Today it is a bit closed. There is plenty of richness and depth, but the nuances still need time to develop. I would cellar the 2017 for at least a year or two.
