Aromas of sweet red berries, smoked meats, spices and cassis introduce the 2013 Santenay 1er Cru Le Beaurepaire Rouge, a medium-bodied, taut and chiseled wine that's still tightly wound on the palate. This has a promising future, but it remains rather closed today, with the vintage's tangy acids taking center stage.

Fermented in 300 litre barrels to avoid oak dominating the fruit. Lovely combination of ripe fruit and light matchstick tension that is already providing great drinking. For white burgundy fans this is GV . (JR)
