2019 Domaine Jean-Paul et Benoit Droin Chablis Grenouilles Grand Cru

The 2019 Chablis Grenouilles Grand Cru is crisp and precise on the taut nose, perhaps not quite delivering the personality of either the Vaudésir or Valmur at this early juncture. Has it got something up its sleeve? The palate is more revealing, with fine acidity and exotic notes of wild peaches and nectarine. Generous and enticingly spicy on the finish. Superb, but be patient.

The 2019 Chablis Grand Cru Grenouilles is excellent, mingling aromas of citrus zest, orange oil, pastry, beeswax, ginger and iodine in an incipiently complex bouquet. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, with a concentrated core of fruit and bright girdling acids, it concludes with a long, saline finish. This is already very integrated and complete, but the real fireworks will come with bottle age.
