2001 Failla Syrah Estate

(from a 1998 planting) Medium dullish ruby. Reticent aromas of superripe red fruits and smoked meat. Thick and dense but youthfully withdrawn; uncompromisingly dry but quite rich, with intriguing notes of cherry, chocolate, sweet tobacco and pepper. This has plenty of underlying ripeness and texture but will need another year or two in the bottle.
