Tasting notes
This has a deep, rich nose of cassis, blackberry, earth, tar, chocolate and subtle smoked meat aromas and while there's definitely some vanilla and new oak notes, these integrated beautifully with air and were almost undetectable on the second day. Full bodied with low acidity and a soft, lush and mouth-filling texture, this has an awesome palate that won't quit and carries into a long finish. This is showing some oak tannins at the moment but there is just tons of fruit to this and it's a joy to drink.

Bright ruby. Exotic, floral-dominated bouquet evokes blackberry, kirsch, cured tobacco and fruitcake. Silky-smooth in texture, offering bright red and dark fruit flavors, slow-building mocha and candied licorice character, and supple tannins. Impressively sweet but precise on the finish, with the licorice quality repeating. This boasts striking energy and clarity.
The 2005 Syrah Estate, which has some Grenache in it and even smells like some Viognier could also be in there given the floral aromatics, has loads of plum, cassis, and blackberry fruit mixed with hints of charcoal and burning embers. This wine has luscious fruit, a sumptuous attack and mid-palate, and is an undeniably sexy wine with low acidity, ripe tannin, and a beautiful mouthfeel. It should drink well for 5-7 or more years.
