The 2004 Riesling Brand Vendange Tardive displays an amber color and shows a matured, even slightly aged bouquet of dried apricots, dates, tea, wild honey, white nougat and dried porcini. Dense and round on the palate, this is a filigreed and elegant VT from the granite terroir of the Grand Cru Brand that reveals a stimulating and savory finish with fine, tart tannin grip. This is possibly not the very best bottle (the color is really dark and the cork broke when I pulled it out), but it was a tasting of older vintages in a restaurant, so I had to accept it. 11.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.

Deep orangey gold. Lots of age on the nose of this. Broad and gingery with masses of sweetness. This could be great with foie gras. Stretches like a ballerina on the palate! (JR)

(this was harvested a bit riper than the Clos Windbuhl and finished with more alcohol and less residual sugar at 11.3% and 74 g/l) Green-gold. Exotically ripe aromas of pineapple, musky mandarin orange and marzipan. Supersweet and wonderfully intense, with distinctly liqueur-like but still fruit-driven flavors of apricot, marzipan and honey. The inclusion of about 10% healthy grapes (i.e., those not affected by noble rot) added freshness to this wine, said Humbrecht. This has a flamboyant personality and great appeal, yet I suspect it will be even more complex ten years down the road.
