Tasting notes
The 2009 Arnot-Roberts Syrah Griffin's Lair is a stunning Syrah that slowly opens with air to show brilliantly pure aromas of blackberry, liquid smoke, peppered bacon, violets, and wet stone like minerality on the nose. This followed by a medium-bodied, concentrated Syrah that has a seamless, elegant profile, integrated acidity, and a firm, structured and chewy finish. Beautiful and this has the balance to age. Give bottles 3-4 years in the cellar, and then drink over the following decade. I'm a fan.

Bright ruby. Impressively lively scents of wild red berries, star anise, potpourri and olive, plus a hint of white pepper. Juicy, pure and energetic in the mouth, with assertive raspberry and cherry compote flavors that gain sweetness and heft with air. The most powerful of this set of 2009 syrahs but also the most electric. The finish is racy, gently smoky and extremely long. This was fermented with all whole clusters and comes in at 13.2% alcohol.
