Score 95/100 · Drink 2024-2035, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Jan 2024

From a high-altitude portion of Coombsville that sees less fog and hence ripens earlier than much of the AVA, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon High Ranch offers up deep violet-like florals, ripe cassis and intriguing hints of dried spices. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it's almost creamy and plush in feel, with a long finish redolent of blueberries and cherries.

Made by Sam Kaplan and from a site just across from the Judge vineyard, which sits above the morning fog, the 2021 Vida Valiente High Ranch has an old school, ultra-classic profile of ripe darker currants, ripe tobacco, chocolate, and mineral, with beautiful background spice and herbal nuances. These carry to a full-bodied, concentrated, structured wine that has terrific ripeness, a round, layered mid-palate, and outstanding length. From younger vines planted in 2017, it's a brilliant wine that will evolve for 20 years or more. There are a scant 266 cases produced.
