Roty’s 2007 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru is expressive and seemingly fully mature, with a rich bouquet of musk, black fruit, incense, smoke and tarry new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, textural and rich, with a cool core of fruit, good amplitude, but only moderate intensity. A nice 2007, and true to the Domaine’s style, but not one that transcends the limitations of the year.

Medium red. Complex nose melds red- and blackcurrant, licorice, graphite and smoke. Lush and sweet in the style of the vintage but with a firm structure underneath. This is actually easier to taste today than the Mazis but its underlying minerality and length suggest that it will age slowly and well.
Good deep red-ruby. Lively aromas and flavors of blackberry, violet and licorice. Suave but imploded, with superb purity of fruit and a rather cool character for this cru. A very firm spine gives it power and thrust. The intense, palate-staining finish features suave tannins and considerable nuance. This is superb.
