The 1979 La Dominique is a vintage that I have encountered a couple of times, but it is now one to avoid. The nose is volatile with light menthol notes, the palate is a husk of what it might have been with a very dry and astringent finish. Tasted from a bottle from my personal cellar. Drink from 2019.

The 1979 La Dominique has good color considering its age, though the nose is past its best, rather volatile now with balsamic notes, a touch of menthol, but very loose-knit and lacking cohesion. The palate is skeletal with dry tannin, negligible fruit and an austere, desert-like finish with a sign saying "You should have drunk me in the early 1980s" hammered into the sand. Tasted April 2016.
