Tasting notes
A brilliant effort from Diamond Mountain, the 2023 Chenin Blanc Aberro is 100% Chenin Blanc from the Ex-Reverie site. Bright citrus, leafy herbs, and minty nuances define the bouquet of this medium-bodied white. Rich yet fresh and energetic on the palate, it shows perfectly integrated acidity, bright fruit, and a complex, elegant, juicy personality that will shine on the dinner table. Drink bottles over the coming 4-5 years.

Whole-cluster pressed, settled for less than 24 hours and racked ‘relatively dirty’ to large-format neutral oak where it is barrel fermented with ambient yeasts. The wine aged for 5 months, stirred weekly, with a minimal SO 2 addition made 3 months after fermentation. 100 cases produced. Palest gold, nearly colourless. Scents of lemon pith, pomelo and white flowers. Flavours of lemon peel and lemon pith mix with grapefruit and a touch of pear. Bright, juicy acidity keeps things lively on the palate, with a faint hint of salinity. Missing some varietal character, but a tasty wine. (AY)
The 2023 Chenin Blanc is exceptional. Soaring and vibrant, the 2023 offers a striking mix of varietal character and Diamond Mountain personality. Citrus confit, marzipan, white flowers, lime and dried flowers soar out of the glass. This is a striking wine from five-year-old vines. I would give the 2023 a decant to help soften the finish. All of this fruit is from the former von Strasser property on Diamond Mountain.
