The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a compelling bouquet of intense red and black fruit infused with crushed stone, mint and a touch of sage. The aromatics convey a genuine sense of energy. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a little more angular and edgy than its peers, and shows marked salinity toward the finish. Maybe this is beginning to close up. However, the quality is without doubt and this regal Grand Cru just needs time. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

While it has lost none of its striking elegance, the 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has shut down a bit since I last tasted it, unfurling with coaxing to reveal aromas of ripe cherries, raw cocoa, dried flowers, cinnamon and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered and satiny, with unusual suppleness and charm for a young Clos de la Roche, but with considerable depth and concentration behind its deceptively charming facade. Bright and precise, it's a fabulous wine with a long and brilliant future ahead of it.

Bright, dark red. Pure but reticent aromas of dark raspberry, minerals and spices. Enters the mouth thick and sweet, then saturates the palate with vibrant, fleshy berry, mineral and floral flavors. Most impressive today on the slowly building back end, which features very refined tannins and captivating soil-driven floral perfume. This very complete Clos de la Roche will need at least six or seven years of additional cellaring to burn off some of its baby fat and assume its adult shape.
