2001 Scherrer Zinfandel Old and Mature Vines

Dark red. Pungent aromas of red berries and clove. Juicy and bright but still a bit youthfully folded in on itself. Slightly pinched flavors of fresh cherry and red berries. Finished with firm acids and fine tannins but turned increasingly tart with aeration. Still, this was sweeter and fleshier than the 2000 version tasted alongside it. Also tasted: 2000 Chardonnay Scherrer Vineyard Alexander Valley , 2001 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley , 2001 Zinfandel Shale Terrace Alexander Valley.
