Score 93/100 · Drink 2023-2029, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Aug 2023

The 2019 Chardonnay Jennifer's is a wild, exotic wine that combines heady, tropical inflections with strong phenolic character such that it could be easily confused with a red wine. Apricot, chamomile, spice and tangerine oil give this Chardonnay tons of personality. Intensely cool, coastal air extends the growing season, yielding a wine of notable distinction.

Coming from the Sebastopol Hills, the 2019 Chardonnay Jennifer's was aged for 13 months in 30% new French oak. Displaying aromas of fresh green apple and wet stone, the palate is concentrated and powerful, with a persistent long finish, and the feeling like a rod of energy in its mouthfeel. Drink 2024-2034. A part of the Kendall-Jackson family, Hartford Court was established by Don and Jennifer Hartford, whose first vintage was 1994. They began with two vineyard designated wines, and today they have expanded to include 36 single vineyard wines, dedicated to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel. Jeff Stewart, the general manager and winemaker since 2011, and Tiaan Lordan, who has been with the estate since 2010, share the role as winemakers today.

The 2019 Chardonnay Jennifer’s Vineyard, from Wente selection vines planted in 2005, was barrel fermented and matured in 30% new French oak for 13 months. The nose offers delicate, classy dark spices with a core of white peaches and touches of roasted almonds and honey. The medium-bodied palate is dynamic, beginning with broad honeyed flavors before its tangy acidity brings all that ripe fruit into focus on the very long, stony finish. 255 cases were made.
