100% Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains from vineyards planted on red clay loam. Minimal fermentation due to the very high sugar levels. The wine was fortified at high Baume to maintain natural sweetness. Selected parcels of the finished wine were added to the Rutherglen Muscat solera which is a blend of a number of vintages from many past years. Finished wine extracted after approximately 60 months. Winemaker Jules Campbell. TA 5 g/l , pH 4.5, RS 300 g/l. S crewcap. B ottle weight 402 g. Available in over 200 shops. Big and tooth-rotting but with quite enough freshness. Very long. Well done! And still ridiculously good value. Great for Christmas? (JR)

Slightly redder and darker in hue than the Tokay, Campbells NV Rutherglen Muscat is also slightly richer and fuller on the palate. Yet it's still possible to see the delicate floral character of the grape variety here alongside sweet flavors of maple syrup and dried dates. Produced using a modified solera system, this stuff is remarkably similar in quality and style from batch to batch—and it keeps well even after opening.

Glowing fox red with some greenish yellow at the rim. Treacly nose with some real lift and life. Massively sweet but lifted with liquorice and a clean, fresh finish. Really quite racy. Liquefied plum pudding? Incredibly sweet and mellow, Lovely texture. Very long. Definitely better than most Rutherglen Muscats seen in mass distribution. GV (JR)

Tasted blind. Pale orange tawny. A bit tarty orange flower water on the nose. Not really the follow-through one seeks. A little astringent on the finish. Perfectly OK but not exciting. Sweet and a little sugary as well as quite strong. (JR)
