A gem in 2017 is the 2017 Blueline Estate 36 (which was previously released under the 36-24-26 label). A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Petit Verdot, and the rest Malbec, all aged in new French oak, it reveals a saturated purple color as well as terrific blueberry and black raspberry fruits interwoven with notions of tobacco leaf, chocolate, violets, and loamy soil. This beauty makes the most of the vintage and is full-bodied, has a great mid-palate, ripe tannins, and more purity and finesse than most in the vintage. Drink it any time over the coming two decades or more.

The 2017 Red Wine Blueline Estate 36-24-36 is a co-ferment of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Rich blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice mint and cloves infuse the 2017 with notable plushness and layers of depth. Silky and inviting, the 2017 has so much to offer. Today, the torrefaction and overall oak signatures are more present than they were when I tasted the wine from barrel last year.

Blueline Estate 36 is a new name—this used to be called "Blueline 36-24-36." Blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot and 10% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Blueline Estate 36 slips sensuously out of the glass with notions of baked raspberries, black cherry compote, warm cassis and bouquet garni with wafts of violets, spice cake, fragrant soil and fallen leaves. Medium-bodied, the palate is beautifully poised with loads of freshness and firm, fine-grained tannins supporting the perfumed fruit, finishing with beautiful restraint.

The 2017 36-24-36 Blueline Estate Red Wine is a powerful, decidedly flamboyant wine. Super-ripe black cherry, chocolate, spice and copious new French oak shape this opulent, inviting Cabernet from Hourglass. The blend is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot and 10% Malbec.
