Score 91+/100 · Drink 2017-2021, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jul 2016

Sweet red cherry, blood orange, spices, mint and rose petals give the 2014 Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard a bright, aromatically lifted upper register that serves to balance the wine's intense fruit. Powerful yet also pliant through the middle, the 2014 exudes balance and class. The bouquet is a bit disjointed and lacking in focus, but other than that, the Gap's Crown is a fine Pinot from Sojourn.

The 2014 Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard comes from the cool Petaluma Gap, and is made completely from Dijon clones 115, 828 and 667. Deep ruby-colored, with loads of black cherry fruit, some red currants and blueberries, the wine is more fruit-centered than the Wohler, with less spice, and for that reason seems less complex, although that may emerge with further bottle age. This wine has outstanding depth and a deep ruby color. Drink it over the next decade.
