2018 J. Rochioli Chardonnay Little Hill Vineyard

Showing more precision, the 2018 Chardonnay Little Hill is a tiny production release (there are 149 cases) from a site in the Russian River Valley and spent 8 months in French oak. Beautiful white flowers, bright citrus, lemon curd, green almond, and a distinct salinity all emerge from the glass, and it builds nicely with air, showing medium-bodied richness, bright yet integrated acidity, and a great, mouthwatering finish. It's going to evolve for at least a decade. This is another stunning wine from Tom Rochioli that has plenty of California richness yet still comes across as a Grand Cru white Burgundy.

The 2018 Chardonnay Little Hill emerges from the oldest vines on the property, planted in 1972. In this range, the Little Hill stands out for its energy, tension and focus. Citrus peel, white flowers, mint and crushed rock all grace this nuanced, crystalline Chardonnay. This gorgeous, translucent Chardonnay shows the more finessed side of the Russian River Valley.
