The 2015 Fume Blanc I-Block is a tiny production release that comes all from a single block in the To Kalon vineyard and dry farmed vines that were planted in 1945. It has more minerality as well as vibrant white peach, white flowers, and minty notes to go with a medium-bodied, richly textured, concentrated style on the palate. It’s another beautiful white from this team.
The 2015 Fumé Blanc I-Block is deep, phenolic and intense. Weight, power and structure dominate, while varietal Sauvignon Blanc aromas and flavors are very much in the background. The warm, dry growing season accentuates a style built on textural resonance.
The 2015 Fumé Blanc I-Block is a powerful wine. Bright, sculpted and nuanced, the 2015 is full of character as well as intensity. Today, the I-Block is laser-focused and tight, but it holds considerable promise. The integration of fruit, acid and structure is masterful. I would prefer to give the 2015 at least a few years in bottle to be at its best.
