Score 92/100 · Drink 2021-2029, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate, Feb 2020

The 2017 Tempranillo 22, aged 22 months, features desiccated violets, boysenberry, blueberry and black cherry jam with notions of mint chocolate, underbrush, loamy earth and grilled meats. The palate is full-bodied, dense and rich with a very firm, chalky frame and great freshness, finishing long. This needs more time in bottle.

The 2017 Tempranillo is cut from the same cloth as the classic cuvée yet has a touch more meatiness and complexity. Brilliant blue fruits, Asian spices, cured meats, saddle leather, candle wax, licorice, and herbes de Provence-like notes all just come soaring from the glass. Full-bodied, it displays fabulous purity, a rich, layered, sexy texture, and ripe, polished tannins. It's a big wine, with plenty of structure, moderate acidity, and a finish that won't quit. It's straight-up stunning today with a decant, and I suspect it will benefit from just short-term cellaring and keep for a decade.
