Tasting notes
A total winner is the classic 2014 Syrah Matinee Santa Barbara County. It possesses a sweeter, prettier and more upfront profile (compared to the single vineyard releases) and is loaded with notions of black raspberries, olive tapenade, underbrush, pepper and incense. This medium to full-bodied, complex, even chewy and mouth-filling Syrah has tons of character, ripe tannin and a great finish. It's already drinking beautifully, but should easily cruise for 5-6 years, if not longer.

Paul Lato's 2014 Syrah Matinee is bold, juicy and forward, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Blueberry, black cherry, smoke, lavender and tobacco all give the 2014 its supple, succulent personality. I would prefer to drink the 2014 sooner rather than later, while the fruit remains vibrant. This is a delicious appellation-level wine.
